Steinway is said to have built the best pianos in the world. This is a beautiful example of an early elaborate model Steinway & Sons Victorian upright piano dating from 1877. These early Steinway upright pianos are very rare due to the popularity of the square piano during the mid-19th Century. It was not until around 1890 that the upright piano gained favor over the square piano in America.
This piano was originally sold as aModel G, Style 3 full upright piano. This model was the largest, fanciest, and most expensive upright piano in the Steinway product line, selling new for $1,000 - the cost of a small house in 1877! The tone quality of this amazing piano will rival any high quality upright piano built today.
This beautiful instrument is made of endangered Brazilian Rosewood with extensively carved legs, moldings and trim. Note the “S&S” trademark initials for “Steinway & Sons” carved in the lower fretwork panel. Only the finest Victorian parlor would have been privilege to house such an exquisite instrument!
This piano is being restored to like-new condition, inside and out. If desired, this piano can be equipped with the Pianomation player system, and can play by itself by streaming music live on an iPod, computer, iPad, etc.
An original matching antique piano stool is included.
