Steinway is said to have built some of the finest pianos in history, and many of their 19th Century patents and designs are still being used in piano manufacturing today!
This early piano is a classic example of Steinway's square piano manufacturing at its finest. During the 19th Century, many of Steinway's famous patents and claims to early fame were because of their square grand pianos. This beautiful piano was built by the famous Steinway & Sons Piano Company in 1860, a time when Steinway built more square pianos than uprights and grand pianos combined. It is especially interesting to consider that this piano was built before the Civil War! The case is made of beautifully carved Brazilian Rosewood and is of the Rococo Victorian style. The instrument is elegantly carved and has a massive, handsome appearance. It is being restored to like new condition, inside and out.
A matching period piano stool is included. This piano can be equipped with computerized player mechanisms if desired.
