Custom made, one of a kind Chickering Victorian upright piano
Out of stock
This stunning Chickering & Sons Victorian Upright piano was just added to our collection. These photos were literally taken as it was being wheeled off the delivery truck! Built in 1884, this piano is one of the most elaborately carved upright pianos we have ever had in our collection. Mostly original, this piano looks and sounds almost as good now as it did in 1884! It will be a truly extraordinary musical instrument once it has been internally restored. Only the finest materials and craftsmanship went into these highest-grade pianos.
The carvings and detail work on this piano are absolutely stunning. Perhaps the most impressive feature are the large ornately carved columns on each side of the instrument, giving the piano a bold and commanding presence. Each side of the keyboard is adorned with a lovely music lyre motif set among holly leaves and berries, complimented by extensive egg & dart molding around the front of the keyboard. The front panels, both top and bottom, are beautifully designed with elegant filigree grill work. The red fabric behind the panels is not original, and we suspect the original fabric was deep dark burgundy shade.
This piano is one of the most well-preserved instruments we've ever seen. The exterior finish is done in an original black lacquer finish, and the finish is 100% original! Even now, prior to restoration, it plays well and sound amazing. It will be an extraordinary instrument after professional restoration.
If desired, this piano can be equipped with the Pianomation player system, and can play by itself by streaming music live on an iPod, computer, iPad, etc. A matching piano stool is included.
Pianos of this caliber and condition are exceedingly uncommon in today's market.
