This piano is a “Cottage Size” square grand piano built by J. W. Brackett in 1871. As the size of the square grand piano increased throughout the 19th Century, several firms produced smaller “Cottage Size” pianos like this one, making them ideal for modest size homes and small apartments.
This J. W. Brackett “Cottage Size” square grand piano is made of exotic-grain Brazilian Rosewood and is made in the Empire Revival Victorian style. The instrument has been restored to like-new condition, inside and out. Although the instrument is smaller than most larger square pianos built during this period, the sound it produces is quite impressive and lovely to listen to.
