This is an earlier example of pianos built by William Knabe & Company. Built in 1854, this piano was highly evolved and incorporated many design features found in much later square grand pianos. It is made of beautifully carved Brazilian Rosewood, and is made of the Empire Revival style which was popular in the years leading up to the Civil War. Note the beautifully restored ivory keyboard - the fronts of the keys are actually made of boxwood, not ivory, a feature commonly found in European instruments but rarely found in American built square pianos. Notice the beautiful cut work around the music desk and music rack. Listen to the attached videos - it's a rare treat to hear a square grand piano that has been properly restored! An original matching stool is included.
