Pre-Civil War Era Square Piano By William Bourne
This beautiful square grand piano was manufactured by William Bourne circa 1854, several years before the onset of the Civil War. William Bourne started building pianos as early as 1837 and pianos were built under the William Bourne brand name for over a century. The firm enjoyed a superior reputation for fine quality and craftsmanship.
This piano is made of beautifully carved Brazilian Rosewood in the Empire Revival Victorian style. The original finish has darkened over time, but will be quite beautiful after professional restoration. A unique characteristic of this instrument is a pair of brass castings depicting the faces of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Sebastian Bach on either side above the keyboard.
This piano will be restored to like-new condition, inside and out, with a historical perspective in mind. These restored instruments have a sweet, delicate “harp-like” sound quality that is quite pleasant to hear!
If desired, this piano can be equipped with the Pianomation player system which allows the instrument to play by itself by streaming music live from any smart device. Thousands of song titles are available.
