Description
Steinway is said to have built the best pianos in the world. This is a beautiful example of an early elaborate model Steinway & Sons Victorian upright piano dating from 1872. It is made of lavishly carved burl walnut, and has heavily carved cabriole legs and moldings. This piano would have sold new for several hundred dollars in the 1870s- the cost of a small house! These early Steinway upright pianos are very rare due to the popularity of the square piano during the mid 19th Century. It was not until about 1885 that the upright piano gained favor over the square piano in America. This piano has been completely restored from a historical perspective, and plays like the day it was built! This is a very rare opportunity to own a wonderful piece of American musical history! An original stool is included. Computerized player mechanisms can be installed if desired.
