These Hamburg-built Louis XV Baroque models were far more elaborate and heavily carved than the New York models. Built in very small numbers, they are exceedingly rare in the United States today.
This is an exceedingly rare Hamburg-built Steinway Model M grand in the Baroque/Louis XV carved style. Although the New York factory built a lovely Louis XV style cabinet, these Hamburg factory models were substantially more elaborate and heavily carved than the New York Models.
Steinway’s records tell us that this piano was originally built in 1937 and sold new in 1938. They tell us that this piano was originally done in a white lacquer finish with gold accents, but several years ago a previous owner had the finish changed to a lovely satin black finish with elegant copper accents. The inside of the piano lid and rim are finished in handsome exotic-grain mahogany wood, as is the inside of the keyboard cover. This blend of natural mahogany wood against the black and copper finish makes this one of the most stunning we have ever had in our collection!
This is one of those rare pianos that has been painstakingly maintained and cared for all its life. The piano had some restoration work done in Germany several years ago before it was brought here to the United States. The flawless ivory and ebony keyboard is just breathtaking. The tone and touch of this piano are unparalleled; it would be a challenge to find a new Model M Steinway that sounds as strong and feels as responsive as this one!
Not only is this piano a visually stunning piece of artwork; it is also a true musician’s instrument. This piano offers the best of both worlds to a discriminating buyer.
If desired, this piano can be equipped with the Pianomation player system which will allow the instrument play by itself by streaming music live on an iPod, computer, iPad, etc. Thousands of song titles are available.
The matching piano bench is included.
