Very Rare Stodart, Worcester & Dunham Square Grand Piano in Unusual Crotch Mahogany Wood
This is a rare and early square grand piano by the firm of Stodart, Worcester & Dunham. Based on the serial number, this piano was built in 1836. This was the same year the firm’s partnership was established which makes this instrument the earliest example by Stodart, Worcester & Dunham we have ever seen.
This lovely piano is made of imported Honduran “Crotch” Mahogany wood and is of the Empire Revival style. Most square pianos from this period were made of dark rosewood, few were made in light mahogany wood. The tone of these early square pianos is quite remarkable and pleasant to listen to. They have an almost “harp-like” quality which makes these instruments ideal for classical music and historical performances.
This piano will be restored to like-new condition, inside and out. If desired, this piano can be equipped with the Pianomation player system, and can play by itself by streaming music live on an iPod, computer, iPad, etc. Thousands of song titles are available.
