This is one of the earliest Chickering square grand pianos we have seen come through our shop. Chickering was the first piano manufacturer in America, established in 1823. The serial number of this piano dates it in the 1830s, very early for the firm. This piano is made of Brazilian Rosewood, and is of the massive Empire Revival style. Note the octagon legs and the elaborately carved moldings, all hallmarks of this classic style. Only a wealthy few could afford this type of instrument in the early 19th Century. This piano is being restored to like new condition. It has an incredible sound, with tremendous power and volume. An original matching stool is included.
