Description
The “Early Parlor Grand” model was the predecessor to the Steinway Model “C” Grand
This piano was built by Steinway & Sons in 1868, shortly after the end of the Civil War. This piano was originally sold as the “Early Parlor Grand” in original Steinway catalogs. The “Early Parlor Grand” was built from 1861-1879, ultimately being replaced by the “Model C” grand (which was first introduced in 1878).
This piano is made of endangered Brazilian Rosewood and is of the desirable carved Rococo cabriole-leg style. Note the elegantly carved music rack and pedal lyre. While this is a large, full-size instrument, it has an overall elegant and formal appearance well suited for a large home.
In 2009, Steinway re-introduced a limited number of reproduction Rococo style grand pianos patterned after this original instrument. The new reproduction Rococo Steinways are retailing for far more than the cost of this restored vintage instrument. Steinway pianos of this style and caliber are among the most rare and desirable vintage pianos in history.
Computerized player mechanisms can be installed in this piano if desired, allowing the piano to play wirelessly from an iPad, computer or smartphone. Thousands of song titles are available!
