DESCRIPTION

Pictured on page 320 of the Pierce Piano Atlas, this piano was one of those very first baby grand pianos ever made, making it historically significant in American piano history. Hugo Sohmer built some of the finest pianos in America. Established in 1872, the Sohmer name was built until 1988, making it one of the few prominent American piano manufacturers to survive well over a century.

This piano is made of highly carved rosewood, and is unusual in that it is curved on both sides as opposed to being curved only on the right side. Note the elaborately carved shields and molding all around the entire case. The tone and touch of this piano is just breathtaking! Since this piano is only 5 feet long, it would be ideal for someone wanting a Victorian period piano who has limited space. This is the only piano of this kind we have ever seen. It can be equipped with computerized player mechanisms if desired.
