Description
Rare Edwardian style grand piano by Schomacker of Philadelphia
The Schomacker Piano Company was one of the earliest and most successful piano manufacturers in Philadelphia. The firm built high-quality, expensive pianos from the 1830s until the 1960s, well over 130 years! In 1899, the firm was purchased by the giant Wannamaker’s Department Store Chain and Schomacker pianos were sold in their stores.
This beautiful piano is made of imported Honduran Mahogany wood under the “antiqued whitewash finish” (the antiqued whitewash finish was applied by a previous owner) and is of the Edwardian style. The Edwardian period (named for the reign of King Edward VII) was a transitional period that stretched from the end of the 19thCentury until the first decade of the 20thCentury. This period saw design move away from the elaborately carved Victorian style to the more stream-lined “modern” styles of the 20thCentury. This is why your piano has such a simple elegant look with subtle carved details without being “too much”.
This piano will be restored to like new condition, both inside and out, with a historical perspective in mind. The piano can be restored in a brown or red mahogany finish, or even a custom black finish if desired. The touch of the piano is very light and responsive, and the tone quality is of very good quality.
If desired, this piano can be equipped with the Pianomation player system and can play by itself by streaming music on any smart device. Thousands of song titles are available.
A matching piano bench is included.
