Frederick Mathushek was one of the most celebrated innovators in American piano history. His designs and patents changed piano building forever, and his instruments, although rare, are considered some of the finest pianos ever built.
This lovely piano was built by the famous Mathushek Piano Company of New Haven, CT, in 1889, right at the height of the Victorian era. Mathushek was known for building exceptionally high quality, expensive pianos and was considered one of the finest innovators of his time.
This piano is made of richly figured walnut wood and is of the carved Victorian style. Note the heavily carved legs, molding, grills, etc. This level of quality and craftsmanship is no longer available today! This instrument is a large, full-size upright grand with the sound quality of a full grand piano. This piano will be restored to like-new condition, both inside and out, with all work done with a historic perspective in mind.
