DESCRIPTION

This beautiful square grand piano is a classic example of the cabriole leg square piano built in America in the mid to late 19th century. Built by the Mathushek Piano Company of New Haven, CT, this model is known as the “Orchestral” Square Grand Piano, one of the larger models offered by the firm. This piano has been equipped with a computerized player mechanism so that it plays compact discs. This installation doesn’t change the tone or touch of the instrument in any way, and the piano can still be played manually. It has been refinished and rebuilt, and plays like factory new. It has heavily carved scalloping around the edges of the case, as well as an ornate grilled music rack. It is rare that one has the opportunity to play a square piano in this condition, and many are surprised at how pleasing an instrument it can be to listen to. These pianos are rare antiques and their values are appreciating rapidly. Includes an original matching stool.
