Description
The Louis XV carved style executed in walnut wood has been one of the most popular and desirable formal furniture styles in American furniture, and it is even more popular today than it was 100 years ago.
This lovely piano was built by the famous firm of Kranich & Bach in 1911. A Louis XV baby grand piano like this would have cost over $1,000 new in the early 20th Century, a luxury only a wealthy few could afford! The fact that someone invested that kind of money for this piano when it was new makes this instrument a bit special.
Kranich & Bach built high quality, expensive pianos from about 1864-1981...one of the few American piano manufacturers to survive well over a century. Kranich & Bach has a bit of a unique design to its piano action, but after proper restoration they are superb instruments with a superior tone and touch. When new, these pianos known to be exceedingly well made and quite expensive - much more expensive than most brands. Despite their high cost when new, Kranich & Bach pianos were very popular throughout the 20th Century. They are consistently some of the most beautiful and satisfying instruments we see come through our shop today.
This piano is made of rare book-matched exotic burl walnut wood. It boasts beautifully carved legs and scalloping along the entire case which gives an overall formal and elegant look while maintaining a delicate balance of simplicity and grace.
