Rare Wm. Knabe & Co. “AMPICO” reproducing player grand piano
Knabe is one of the most celebrated brand names in American piano manufacturing history. In fact, Knabe was the official piano of the Metropolitan Opera for many years.
An example of early 20th Century technology at its finest, this Knabe player grand piano is equipped with the “AMPICO” player system. The “AMPICO” was an advanced pneumatically operated player mechanism which allowed a player piano to play with real expression and dynamics, sounding just like a real person at the keyboard! (The fact this instrument is player piano does not change the manual hand-playability in any way).
This piano is made of beautiful imported Honduran mahogany wood and is of the Traditional double-leg style. Classic lines and beautiful wood grain give this instrument an overall classic and elegant appearance. The piano is being restored to factory-new condition, inside and out. Once restored, the instrument will rival the tone and touch of most better baby grand pianos built today.
A buyer has the option of restoring this piano with the original mechanical AMPICO player system or having the instrument updated to play the computerized Pianomation player system. If desired, this piano can be equipped with the Pianomation computerized player system.
A matching mahogany piano bench is included.
