Description
J & C Fischer was one of the largest and most successful piano manufacturers in New York during the 19th Century era
The J & C Fischer Piano Company was one of the largest and most successful piano manufacturers in New York. The tone, quality and durability of Fischer pianos won the firm high praise for well over a century.
This piano was built by the J & C Fischer Piano Company in 1879, making it one of their later square grand models. The piano is made of Brazilian Rosewood, elegantly carved in the Rococo Victorian style with serpentine legs, carved music rack and pedal lyre. This is a rare 88-note square piano (most were only 85 notes), indicating the piano was one of the higher-grade, more expensive square grand models.
This piano is being restored to like-new condition, inside and out. A matching piano stool is included. Note that even though the piano is a "Fischer" brand, a previous refinisher has inadvertently applied a "Steinway" decal to the front of the piano! This will be replaced with a historically correct "Fischer" decal during restoration.
If desired, this piano can be equipped with the Pianomation player system, and can play by itself by streaming music live on an iPod, computer, iPad, etc.
