This beautiful square piano was built by the famous Chickering & Sons Piano Company of Boston several years prior to the Civil War. Chickering was the first piano manufacturer in America, established in 1823, and their pianos are known to be some of the finest pianos built in American history.
This beautiful piano is made of an unusual blonde Brazilian Rosewood, and is of the stately Empire Revival style. Note the octagon legs and clean, simple lines, all hallmarks of this classic style. The instrumentis being restored to like-new condition inside and out. It has a lovely “harp-like” fortepiano sound heard on the instruments used in the moves like “Pride & Prejudice” and “Cold Mountain”.
