DESCRIPTION

This is a wonderful example of piano building in 19th Century America. This piano was built by Chickering, America's first piano maker, and would have sold new for about $1,200...the cost of a new house! This fact clearly shows how important music and culture was to the American Victorian family. Often the family would go into great debt in order to obtain a piano like this.

This piano is made of beautifully carved rosewood, and it will be a rich, deep reddish brown color after restoration. The old black finish shown here has simply deteriorated and darkened over time. Once restored, this piano will be an excellent instrument, as well as a beautiful piece of Victorian furniture. An original matching stool is included. This piano can be equipped with the computerized player mechanism is desired.
