Jonas Chickering was the first piano builder in America, established in 1823. They are known for building some of the finest pianos in history.
This piano is a beautiful late 19th Century Chickering parlor grand piano in carved mahogany cabinet, circa 1889. According to the 1889 Chickering catalog (see online museum), this piano was known as the "Style S Small Parlor Grand". It is interesting to note that in 1889 this piano would have been considered a small grand...it wasn't until well after 1900 that the popular baby grand piano was introduced to the market. By today's standards, this piano would be considered a large parlor grand, not a small grand.
This particular model is unusual because of its width and is known among piano connoisseurs to have a large powerful sound. Note how wide the back of the piano is...this is to increase the size of the soundboard area, making the piano more resonate and powerful. This piano will amaze you with its tone and power! The piano has been restored to like new condition, inside and out. Computerized player mechanisms can be installed if desired. An authentic matching stool is included.
