This beautiful upright piano was built in 1901 by the well-known Bush & Gerts Piano Company of Chicago. Founded in 1885, Bush & Gerts quickly became one of the leading American piano manufacturers, producing high-quality instruments known for their craftsmanship, durability, and rich tone. The company continued building pianos until 1942, and instruments from this period are still highly regarded today.

This piano is one of the more elaborate and higher-grade upright models produced by the company. It was designed as a premium instrument and would have been quite expensive when new, often comparable in cost to a small home at the time. Pianos like this were not only musical instruments, but also important pieces of fine furniture meant to reflect status and taste.

The cabinet is especially striking, featuring beautifully carved inset panels and detailed moldings throughout. It is made from book-matched burl walnut, a rare and desirable wood known for its rich color and dramatic grain patterns.
