Pleyel was one of the most celebrated piano manufacturers in France
Pleyel of Paris is one of the oldest and most celebrated piano manufacturers in the world. Pleyel pianos were distributed throughout major European countries, hence instruments by Pleyel are rarely encountered here in The United States.
This is a beautiful Cottage-size upright piano by Pleyel circa about 1870. This is a smaller instrument which would have been popular in boudoirs and small cottages across Europe. Pleyel was a favorite of Frederic Chopin, and this instrument is very similar to Chopin’s own piano which he used to compose many of his masterpieces. This piano is made of beautiful Indian Rosewood and has an overall formal and delicate appearance.
These early upright pianos have a light, delicate tone quality that is very pleasing to the ear. This instrument will be restored to like-new condition, both inside and out, with the restoration done with a historical perspective in mind.
