Description
Steinway is said to have built some of the finest pianos in history, and many of their 19th Century patents and designs are still being used in piano manufacturing today!
During the 19th Century, many of Steinway’s famous patents and claims to early fame were because of their square grand pianos. In fact, Steinway built more square grand pianos before 1890 than upright and grand pianos combined!
This piano was built in 1861, the same year the Civil War began. It is made of beautiful Brazilian Rosewood and is of the Rococo Victorian style. This piano is also a full 88-note keyboard, a rare feature for an instrument this early (most pianos were only 85 notes at that time) and also has a full iron frame. This beautiful piano is wonderful example of the mid-19th Century American Square Grand piano at its finest!
This piano will be restored to like-new condition, inside and out, all done with a historical perspective in mind. If desired, this piano can be equipped with the Pianomation computerized player system, allowing the piano to play by itself by streaming music live on an iPod, computer, iPad, etc. This system has over 10,000 songs available in its music library!
