Edwards, Calvin
Calvin Edwards & Company was a small-scale New England piano maker during the mid-19th Century. His workshop was located at the corner of Middle and Lime Streets in Portland, Maine during the decade prior to the Civil War. In later years, the firm was known as Edwards & Son when Calvin’s son joined the firm. There is very limited information available about Calvin Edwards, but it does seem that his firm produced a higher quality line of square grand pianos and possibly melodeons up until just before the Civil War era. Edwards never built pianos in vast numbers, and his instruments are exceedingly rare today.
