DESCRIPTION

This piano was built by the famous Chickering & Sons Piano Company of Boston in 1883. Chickering was originally established in 1823 and was the first piano manufacturer in America. Chickering earned the reputation among musicians and technicians alike as being some of the finest pianos ever built. Long before names such as Steinway, etc., Chickering held top awards worldwide for piano design and manufacturing methods. Once the most popular style of piano built in America, these instruments are nearly extinct today. It is rare that one has the opportunity to listen to one of these instruments that has been professionally restored.
This piano is one of Chickering's later model square grand pianos. This instrument is made of Brazilian Rosewood, now an endangered species, and is elaborately carved in the Rococo Victorian style. Note the elaborate carvings on the legs and music rack. This piano is being restored to like new condition, inside and out.
