DESCRIPTION

This lovely little square grand piano was built by Calvin Edwards in Portland, ME in about 1860. Calvin Edwards built a very small number of instruments compared to most 19th Century piano builders, and his instruments are exceedingly rare today.
This piano would have been considered a “Boudoir” size square piano, not quite as large as the typical 19th Century square grand. It has a lovely delicate “harp-like” tone quality reminiscent to what one would hear in period movies like “Little Women” or “Cold Mountain”. These pianos were designed for small intimate gatherings and were often the center of entertainment and culture in the Victorian home.
The instrument is made of beautifully carved Brazilian Rosewood and is of the Empire Revival style. It has been restored to like-new condition, inside and out. The original matching piano stool is included.
