description

Architecture and furniture in turn-of-the-century America was greatly influenced by the revival of historical period styles.  As the Victorian period transitioned into the new century, interior design began to reflect elements of classical periods like Greek Revival, French Baroque, Tuscan, Jacobean, etc.

This custom-designed piano was built by the famous Wm. Knabe & Co., the official piano of the Metropolitan Opera.  This beautiful instrument reflects stylistic elements of the Greco-Roman period beautifully executed in Honduran Mahogany wood.  The sides of the piano are adorned with 6 full-length Ionic columns which give the instrument an architectural feel reminiscent of ancient palaces and temples.  The front legs of the instrument feature 4 smaller Doric columns which support the keyboard. The front panel of the instrument is beautifully adorned with a classic wreath and garland swag design often found carved in the stone facades of ancient Rome.  These fantastic elements are all tied together with two beautifully carved Romanesque Acanthus leaves on either side of the keyboard, a classic design element in both Roman and Greek Revival styles.

This is a large, full-size instrument with the tone quality of a full grand piano.  Not only is this a uniquely beautiful piece, but also a performance-quality musical instrument.

The piano is shown here prior to restoration.  This piano is being completely restored, inside and out, with a historical perspective in mind.  The buyer will be able to have input into color and finish if requested.  If desired, this piano can be equipped with the Pianomation player system, and can play by itself by streaming music live on an iPod, computer, iPad, etc.  More than 10,000 song titles are available!

A matching piano bench is included.
