Steinway is said to have built some of the finest pianos in history, and many of their 19th Century patents and designs are still being used in piano manufacturing today!
During the 19th Century, many of Steinway's famous patents and claims to early fame were because of their square grand pianos. This beautiful piano was built by the famous Steinway & Sons Piano Company in 1875, and is one of the largest full size square pianos offered by the firm. This piano is very unusual in that is has one of the earliest examples of the sostenuto (middle) pedal, a feature not commonly found on pianos for another quarter century! The case is made of stunning carved rosewood in the Rococo style with extensive moldingand trim. The instrument is elegantly carved and has a massive, handsome appearance. It is being restored to like new condition, inside and out. This piano can be equipped with computerized player mechanisms if desired.
