description

Ivers & Pond was one of the top names in piano manufacturing during the late 19th and early 20th Century. Established in 1880, they built pianos consistently until about 1983, well over 100 years. This piano is made of heavily carved quarter sawn oak wood, which is very rare in Victorian era pianos. Most pianos of the period were made of imported and exotic wood like mahogany and rosewood, but few were made of common oak. It wasn't until the early 20th Century when the Arts & Crafts movement took hold that oak because popular in piano building. As a result, highly carved oak pianos are scarce today.

Note that the carving on this piano is so detailed that it has ribbons of oak leaves carved in the moldings from top to bottom on both sides of the piano! This piano will be restored to perfection, and would be a centerpiece for any home. It has a nice brilliant tone, which has been described as warm and soothing to listen to. It includes matching stool. This piano can be fitted with a computerized player system if desired.
