In the early 20th Century, Knabe built a limited number of custom-designed pianos for special clients. This one-of-a-kind Knabe upright piano was custom built for St. Anthony's Church in St. Louis in 1911.
Knabe was one of America's premier piano makers, and they are considered some of the finest pianos ever built. This piano was custom made for St. Anthony's Church in St. Louis, matching the architecture and design of the church. It remained in the church until just recently. This piano makes lavish use of metal work, hinges, locks, etc., all giving the instrument an almost jugendstil appearance. Note the unusual barley-twist legs and carved molding and trim. This beautiful piano is truly one of the most unique, amazing Mission style pianos we have ever seen. Computerized player mechanisms can be installed if desired.
Note: As founder of The Antique Piano Shop, I have personally collected Mission / Arts & Crafts style pianos for over 25 years. I have a great passion for anything Mission / Arts & Crafts, including Craftsman homes, furniture, and accessories. If you are a true Arts & Crafts enthusiast, you will appreciate how impossible it is to find true Arts & Crafts / Mission style pianos in today’s market. Nearly three decades of collecting and preserving these “impossible to find” instruments has allowed me the opportunity to present the largest collection of true Mission / Arts & Crafts style instruments anywhere in the world.
We are proud to offer the serious enthusiast the option of adding an authentic period instrument for their Craftsman home.
