Instrument Description

This is a beautiful melodeon built by George A. Prince in 1860. These instruments are small reed organs that are operated by pumping the large iron right pedal...the left pedal is volume control and operates a swell shutter. Prior to the Civil War, these little melodeons were often the only form of musical entertainment in Rural America. This melodeon is made of solid walnut with elegantly carved legs and carved moldings. These early instruments are very rare, and potentially quite valuable. An original stool is included.
