Hews, George
George Hews, Richard Marsh and Nathaniel Tileston established the firm of “George Hews & Company” in 1843.  The firm was located at 379 Washington Street, Boston.  George Hews & Company exhibited square pianos with cast-iron frames at the New York Institute Fair in 1847 and 1852 and also participated in London’s Great Exhibition in 1851.  By 1853 the firm employed about 40 workers and built five pianos per week.  George Hews & Co. had a superior reputation for building very well made, good sounding instruments.  Archives suggest that the firm closed in about 1883.
