Ackerly, Henry S. (also spelled Ackley)
Henry S. Ackerly (also listed as Henry S. Ackley) was a very small scale piano maker during the 1840-1860 era in New York City. Ackerly started out as a cabinet maker in the 1830s, and began building small square pianos in limited quantities in about 1845. By 1860, Ackerly was also retailing pianos of other manufacturers in addition to his own instruments. There is no mention of Ackerly after about onset of the Civil War era. Pianos by Ackerly are exceedingly rare and of museum caliber today.
